It was 2023. For a couple of years, I had been haunted by the idea of recording the improvisations of a truly unique child. Kamil is on the autism spectrum, and he seems to catch music straight from the cosmos. We finally recorded a spontaneous piano improvisation of his—lasting about twenty minutes.
I wanted to wrap it in an interesting synthesizer soundscape. But… I had clearly overestimated my abilities. I simply couldn’t find the pulse, the rhythm, or the driving momentum of the music. I attempted the project several times, only to set it aside again and again.
Then came the opportunity to hand the task over to AI. It took quite a few tries—and the result was far from perfect—but the artificial intelligence eventually found a way into the music. Synchronizing the rhythm of the original recording with the generated output also required some effort. And today, one part of this piece is finally complete.
